Synesthesia v Hyperaudio sensitivity

Our (me and The Boy) major physical trigger is audio. Yet to work out completely why but I guess there’s a huge element of being shouted and screamed at. Maybe one day the blanks in our memory will be readable but until then it’s an embodied emotional response to certain sounds. When the emotional response isn’t there I hear everything except that directed at me as my brain is too busy processing the ambient noise to process language.

With no significant history of synesthesia before it was a very pleasant surprise to find that high concentrate THC (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tetrahydrocannabinol for the uninitiated) allows our mind to convert sounds into colours. Not just in any form though but a spectral pattern of frequencies. Think a rainbow graphic equalizer with a fourier transform for the different wavelengths of sound.

The most notable effects were half an hour after taking when I stopped noticing ambient sound and could see the colours fluctuating with the sounds I heard. This lasted between 5-10 minutes and I was fully cognisant of what was happening and able to explain exactly what was happening to my friend.

Although the hyperaudio sensitivity came back quickly the synesthesia hung around for several hours at a much lower level. Mainly prompted by sound but also touch as well.

The mellow feeling has taken nearly 24 hours to wear off but other than a need to sleep and eat hasn’t really had any other subjective effects since.

We/I feel that last nights sleep was the best in memory. Short very intense dreams with a bit of tossing and turning but waking up completely relaxed with no negative thoughts, just a sense of calm. Took a while for our linguistic ability to come back though. πŸ˜€

It’s the first night I’ve actually enjoyed audio hypersensitivity.
