Madly Ever After

Despite my plans to tour the US being thwarted by international issues, I spent time in East Berlin which is lovely! I only walked in West Berlin after walking through the Brandenburg Gate. You have to see this in real life as no picture does it justice!

I know it’s ol;d school to refer to Berlin in this manner but I am old enough to remember the partition and the fall of the wall. The people there are so lovely although the radio music is very much stuck in the 70’s and 80’s although that is much the same for the UK and the US.

Maybe there will be a trip to Sicily later this year or early next, the thoughts of doing the old Grand Tour have come up but really. I am not Indian Jones despite being decades younger than Harrison Ford!I do not need to fulfil an empty place in my soul by travelling for the sake of it.

Ever since I left London I have had a weight lifted off my soul and I find myself ill for days after each time I return there. I guess the coastal air is agreeing with me.

Having had 7 months out of work I do find my mind drifting back into projects and plans and have had so much time to catchup on the accellerating progress of technology.

But also it has given me time to go back to basics. Film photography, painting, relearning low-level code for modern systems, and understanding people. I have a longish article half written about behavioural use of computing.

5 more months before back in the job market although I am getting regular calls and inqueries so it may be sooner if something crops up.

I wouldn’t mind having a poke at SCADA (ICS) systems if something like that came up. How to insulate them from outside interference.

It’s not like I can afford anything more than a PI to experiment. Would love to have a full FPGA set up to experiment on but hey ho. I neither have the time or resources.

Or maybe I could do risk managemnt going forward? I can translate risk into financial costs but basically get ignored. I am looking at you (previous employers) buying that kit will not do what you want and it will cost you more. But again, save some CAPEX and then spend a fortune on OPEX fixing or even just getting it working.

This is just a minor rant, I need to clear my head before doing another travel.
